I was very sorry to learn the sad news of Sam Schuman's recent death. Sam was a true friend of Nabokov scholarship: an early president of the Vladimir Nabokov Society, a devoted participant in panels and international conferences on Nabokov (most recently, the Nabokov in France conference in Paris), and a specialist on Nabokov's allusions to Shakespeare, in particular.
Sam's publications on Nabokov included a number of essays as well as
Nabokov: A Reference Guide and
Nabokov's Shakespeare, which just came out last spring.
He was also a kind, generous, and thoughtful man who enjoyed a
distinguished career in academic administration as well as teaching and
research. He will be very deeply missed.
Yours,
Susan Elizabeth Sweeney
