Happy to know that Co-Editor Sweeney beat Chernov on this one! As a
preliminary note on the connection, and not having seen Beth's
paper, I surmise that she drew attention to the swine/boar motif in
both film and novel: Mr. Swine and Mr. Swoon--and of course Dolly's
swoon (sleep) at HH's hands (or so he thinks, at least).
In the latest Nabokovian, another fairy tale tradition's
role in Nabokov's composition from the 1950s takes center stage:
Cinderella in Pnin. In "Pnin's Cinderella: His History," The
Nabokovian 72 (Spring 2014), 15-20.
