Last Saturday my local public library
hosted a Librari-Con,
where among many activities people dressed up in fantasy
costumes. One of
those activities with the requisite costuming was Lolita
fashion, which was something
hitherto completely unknown to me, but might not be so unknown
to Nabokov-list
followers . So I Googled it. As far as I can tell, the fad,
which
originated in Japan, has little or nothing to do with
Nabokov’s Lolita
except that it is aimed at prepubescent girls. The clothes
seem to be
more Victorian and elaborate than very much like what Lo Haze
would probably wear.
