I was deeply interested by your comment as, though matematically literate
I have never been able to express clearly the Godel theorem to others.
Probably the point is that no matter how many axioms we introduce at least
one of the operations in the algebra cannot be justified (i.e. coming
itself into an additional axiom). This closely reminds me of Thomas
Aquinus probing God́s existence.
I have recently read a comment by a spanish writer (Mr. Andrés Ibáñez,
ABCD cultural supplement of the daily ABC; Madrid , Spain 29/5/2010) about
TOoL stating that Nabokov believes in the hereafter but is never prepare
to admit that in so many words. Maybe then that Shade is waiting (in the
shades) of a happier world than this. Thank you, Dr.J
