I came across this site, cited below (I didn't
quite understand what was going on: a play?), while searching for a
short-cut to find the pages in VN's Gogol for the "comic and
a cosmic extra-sybillant" page reference. I
'm now re-reading Gogol with great renewed enjoyment.
VN begins with a page from "Diary of a Madman"
and just after a long confession of sufferings endured we find... "And by
the way, gentlemen, do you know that the Bey of Algiers has a round lump growing
right under his nose?" I was reminded of Kinbote's foreword:: " he marked his card or cards not with the date of his
final adjustments, but with that of his Corrected Draft or first Fair Copy [...]
There is a very loud amusement park right in front of my present
lodgings."
