to be fair to the russian translators whose note concerning Botkins I
translated (Ilyin and Luxembourg),

it should be said that in their short introduction to their notes
(it was in the volume containing "Pnin", short stories and
"Pale Fire" of the five volume edition by "Symposium", St. Petersburg,
1999) they say
that in their comments to PF they used several works by
Nabokov scholars, in particular "... Meyer Priscilla. Find What the Sailor
Has Hidden...". (They mention also D. Barton Johnson and B. Boyd.)
The authors express special thanks to
Priscilla Meyer for her help, even though they may not have indicated what exactly they have used in each note.
