VN prose had traits of Japanese art forms:

visual images played bigger role then music
reserved, non-direct expression of feelings
precise in detail
general lightness of his, even bigger, ‘complex’ works (isn’t “Ada” light in spite of all presented challenges?).

It is not by accident that some of classical Russian writers are so popular in Japan.

I was quite amazed while reading this charming Japanese folk tale story how nicely it echoes Pale Fire poem. I doubt, of course, that Nabokov knew it.
