EDNOTE. Thanks--once again--to Jansy. Her answer llustrates, I think, the curious psychological fact that one super mot can so easily blank out another. Everybody knows the quote "Life....one." The equally brilliant aphorism re prophesy fades into the background. I have often noticed that some VN phrase I have been mulling over, while brilliant in itself, overshadows another adjacent gem. One of VN's great charms as a writer.
