There has been a recurrent thread about writers who are somehow "Nabokovian." Almost all of the names mentioed were Anglo-American, although I pointed to a few Russians. Sergei Ilyin, Nabokov's main English-Russian translator calls attention to Evgenii Laputin, whose novel "_Moi vstrechi s Ogastesom K'yunitsem was nominated for a Russian Booker Prize last year. I have not read any of Laputin's work but he is clearly a remarkable man. I translate Ilyin's remarks below and pass on a URL which contains some of his work (in Russian).

Laputin was trained as a neurosurgeon but is now a well known plastic surgeon. In addition, since 1997 he has been editor of the magazine _Novaya Yunost'_ (in which Ilyin's translation of VN's _Transparent Things_ appeared). As a writer he is, in fact, openly a disciple of VN. And a good one. One of his novels, if I recall correctly, is called _Priruchenie arlekinov_ [The Taming of the Harlequins]. _Moi vstrechi s Ogastesom K'yunitsem_, has a distinct air of PALE FIRE about it.
