I was invited to write the My Daily Read column for the Chronicle of Higher Education. I don't mention Nabokov at all here but it may be of interest anyway. I'm mentioning Nabokov now in the hope that this can legitimize this post appearing on Nabokv-L. I DO mention Machado de Assis, whom I discuss in comparison with Nabokov in my Stalking Nabokov, and Orhan Pamuk, perhaps the most gifted writer to have learned from Nabokov.
