understand she came of Canadian stock, as did Shade’s maternal grandmother (a
first cousin of Sybil’s grandfather, if I am not greatly mistaken).

hmm - does this hint at an incestuous link between Mr and Mrs Shade? I mean in
their ancestry - remember that Kinbote often gets things right, but not quite
exactly.
