Many of Nabokov's titles feature a single word, either a proper name (*Mary,
*"Lance,*" Lolita, Ada*) or an abstract noun (*Glory*, *Despair*); others
feature a single noun preceded by an article (*The Eye, The Gift*).
What do you make of a three-part sequence like *King, Queen, Knave* and
"Cloud, Castle, Lake"? (And why not "Lake, Castle, Cloud"?)
