EDITOR'S NOTE. NABOKV-L thanks Robert Cook <rcook@rhi.hi.is> for this
new information on ADA's mysterious Parluggian Owl. We now know the
source of VN's choice of names. Any ideas on WHY he uses it in Part I,
chptr 24? One assumes it is a sub- intra- or extra-textual allusion. But
to what?
--------------------------------
I do not find any entry "parluggla" in the appropriate volume of the Ordbok
over svenska spraket utgiven av Svenska akademien (Swedish Dictionary
published by the Swedish Academy), 31 volumes to date. "Uggla" is of course
"owl", cognate with the English word, with German "Eule" etc. "Parl-"
suggests French "parler," and there are a few Swedish words with that first
element.
