Boyd's "VN--The American Years" mentions that the Olympia Press edition of
Lolita sold like hotcakes under the counter in bookstores all over the
U.S. during 1956 and '57. Does anyone know, or have any idea of how to
discover, exactly how many copies of it were sold? Does anyone know of a
library (personal or otherwise) that has an extant copy? Does anyone
remember buying one?
I look forward to responses on this topic for a paper on the popular
reception/perception of Lolita which I am giving at the American Studies
Association conference in November.
