The reason why Nabokov's coinage KRESTOSLOVITSA did not "take"
is that it contained the word for the "cross." Or so I recall reading
somewhere. I know what you mean about all the Nabokoviana to be found
in the puzzles. Ada seems to be the all-time favorite, but even Dar
turns up. I recall the first time I found the first name of Mandelstam
in a NYT puzzle. I'd spent years sifting the dust of Widener looking
for his LAST name--and seldom finding it. Cheers/ CB
