Thomas Seifrid wondered "what Nabokov would have had to say about a
conference with a title like 'Discourse and Ideology in Nabokov's Prose.'"
It is presumptuous of me to answer that, but I will anyway: Nothing.
Artists create. Pedants explicate. The best scholarly criticsm (and
the only worth subjecting oneself to) is that which blends keen insight
with art. Very little of what is written about Nabokov (or anyone else)
attains such a standard.
