The following reference may have been missed by even the most ardent
Nabokovian: Temira Pachmuss, "Tri Malen'kie Pugovitsy...: Vospominaniya o
moikh vstrechakh s russkimi pisatelyami i deyatelyami kul'tury" (Three
Little Buttons...: Recollections of my Meetings with Russian Writers and
Cultural Figures") in _Australian Slavonic and East European Studies_ ,
vol. 8, #1, 1994, pp. 99-124. Professor Pachmuss tells of her encounters
with First Wave Russian writers during the 60's and 70's. On pages
118-120 there is an account of her meeting with the Nabokovs in Montreux.
Pachmuss, an authority on Zinaida Gippius, gives some details on the
background of Gippius' famous dismissal of the young VN's poetic efforts.
The account seems to differ a bit from Boyd's (Vol. I, p. 121.)
D. Barton Johnson / Department of Germanic, Slavic and Semitic Studies
