On 21 July B. Holmes raised the question of why Nabokov was, he thought,
so little taught in college courses. I expressed the view that Nabokov
was, in fact, rather widely taught. Galya Diment, a comp. lit. specialist
in the Slavic Dept. at the University of Washington, offers the following
thought:
"I think it a fair assumption thatnow Russian literature will not have
to be divided into "Soviet" and "emigre" but will be just taught as 20th
century Russian literature. Nabokov will be taught much more often than he
used to be......By the way, when I taught my Nabokov seminar last quarter,
the Toker and Johnson were my students' favorite [critical studies].
