"Lolita" was featured on March 23, 1997 as the "word of the day" by an
internet subscriber list called A.Word.A.Day. This is how the post
appeared:

Lo.li.ta n. [fr. Lolita, character in the novel Lolita (1955) by
Vladimir Nabokov : 1959] : a precociously seductive girl

This week's theme: Incubus, and what else to avoid while shopping
for shoes.

"Lolita" is chosen to be included under the current week's "theme"
perhaps with a sense of humor by the editor? Are we to avoid all Reboks
and Lolitas lurking among the racks?

In today's New York Times crossword puzzle, the clue to number eleven
down is "1957 Nabokov novel," i.e. _Pnin_.
