In regard to Mr. Maliszewki's question about VN's reactions to
illustrations of his work...I recall a letter to Playboy after an
abridgement of Ada wherein VN stated his complete disgust with the
accompanying illustration (one of his complaints was, as I recall, that the
figures seemed to be without proper skeletal support). On the same note,
as an artist dealing in commercial and "fine art" my own reaction to the
cover art on any of the recent reissues of VN's work is made up with equal
parts of horror and amusement...especially the paperback Lolita with its
"artfully" blurred duotone of a young thing right out of David Hamilton's
rejects... better suited to Olympia Press (there's McFate for you).
