In "Highbrow and Hardcore," an article tracing the new "Perversion Chic"
in movies and novels in the March _Vogue_ (454), John Powers
discusses how Lyne's _Lolita_ as "sure to shock" compared to Kubrick's
version. Grouped with such films as _Crash_ and _Thieves_, it's nice to see
that _Lolita_ remains on the cutting edge of fin de siecle decadent
aesthetics. As Powers writes: "Mere sex is out, transgression is in."
