the item below. Naomi Pascal, a former student of VN, is the author of a
charming memoir about her experience which appeared on NABOKV-L and in THE

NABOKV-L has received a copy of the Iron's LOLITA reading and will
comment on them in the near future.

The "Audio" section of Publishers Weekly (issue of March 3, 1997) includes
two mentions of Lolita:

1 (p. 28). An article on the 45th anniversary of Caedmon's spoken-audio
imprint includes the sentence: "In February, Tower Records' listening
stations featured two Caedmon titles: *Lolita* by Vladimir Nabakov [sic],
read by James Mason, and *Run with the Hunted*, written and read by
Charles Bukowski."

2 (p. 30). The lead review of forthcoming titles is of an unabridged
reading of Lolita by Jeremy Irons. The review states: "Nabokov's noted and
notorious novel is tight and concise enough to sustain listener interest.
. . . Actor Irons reads with wickedly understated malevolence, preserving
Humbert's foolish patrician airs. The artfulness of the telling is
delightful, with all its stilted false humility. For those who have never
read the book, or read it long ago, the subject matter of a man in love
with a child will come across as a fresh shock indeed." A note mentions
that "Irons stars as Humbert Humbert in the Adrian Lyne film version of
Lolita, to be released soon in the U.S." The audiotape is scheduled to be
released in April.
