And then there was the story (I'm probably remembering it incorrectly) about the
post office in San Francisco that did a brisk business in the Nixon stamp when
it was first issued. They sold it in a clear plastic envelope on which had been
drawn prison cell bars.
EDITOR'S COMMENT. Echoes of VN's "first throb of LOLITA"---the ape in
the Paris Jardin des Plantes that drew a picture of the
bars on his/her cage?
