1) EXHIBITION: New York Public Library--Center for the Humanities (Ends
Sat, Feb 15) Fifth Ave. 10-6 daily
"The Hand of the Poet: Original Manuscripts by 100 Masters, from John
Donne to Julia Alvar"
Original works from the quills, pens, and typewriters of 100 different
poets. The process of writing poetry is illustrated through the
manuscripts, diaries, and letters of many literary immortals. This second
installment concentrates on American poetic a chievement and much of the
work on display here was produced by writers suffering inordinate
tragedies and illness. Featured poets include Sylvia Plath, James Merrill,
Dylan Thomas, and Vladimir Nabokov.
2) FOGHORN (apparently the paper of San Francisco State U.) reported in
late 1995 that VN's collected stories was #4 on its "Bestsellers list
(after Amy Tan's _One Hundres Senses_, Umbert Eco's _The Island of the Day
Before_, and Kazua Ishiguro's _The Unconsoled_.
