EDITOR's NOTE. In response to the query about the "real" Fialta.
Brian Boyd suggests the Crimean "Yalta" and the Adriatic "Fiume" (now
Rijeka), i.e., Fi+alta. By far the fullest account of "Fialta" is to be found in a
forthcoming book by:
Maxim D. Shrayer, "The World of Nabokov's Stories"
(forthcoming, University of Texas Press, Literary Modernism series,
October-November 1998). The discussion of Fialta is in Chapter 3,
"Nabokov and Chekhov."
