My thanks go out to Rahat for pointing out my spelling error.
That was way too funny. The Puritan in me just couldn't
write such a scandalous word as "ecstatically."
But seriously, it was my rush to send a conciliatory
letter and my reliance on the intelligence of my
spell checker program to determine that word
I had intended to write that caused the error.
So it was the computer's slip and not mine.
I've been trying to get it to talk about it's
relationship with it's father, but so far all
I've gotten is a very stubborn silence, which
indicates the graveness of it's problem.
I thought my Updike posting suffered from a
lack of self-deprecating humor. Rahat proved
that wasn't so. What luck.
I'd also like to thank Galya for allowing me to
bare my butt in public. She had serious reservations
about posting such an aggressive letter. Perhaps she
was right. I'd also like to say that I have much more
respect for Boyd than that letter indicated. I think he
is an intelligent man. I reference my volumes of his
biography quite often. He did me and all us Nabokov
fans a great service by writing it. The research time alone
must have been incredible. Thank you, Brian.
