VN in the Collector's Editions of Classics

In today's NYT, there is an article on the new series of
Collector's Editions of Classics published by Doubleday in collaboration
with the NYPL and the Literary Guild. Many of the new background materials
included in the series come from the Berg Collection. According to the
article written by Mel Gussow, the VN archive in the Berg Collection was
used for two volumes featuring European selections -- *Madame Bovary* and
Chekhov: "The European selections... take advantage of the library's
archive of Vladimir Nabokov papers, highlighting the works with excerpts
from Nabokov's lecture notes on those authors." Nine volumes all in all
are scheduled to appear for now (some already have), taking the series
to the 1920s and featuring mostly English and American authors ("Dickens
as well as Emily Dickinson," as the article points out. Also: Emerson,
Charlotte Bronte, Dreiser, Booker T. Washington, Conrad). The article does
not say whether VN is to be featured in the later volumes in his own
right, but there are people on the list who may know more about the
project, including Stephen Crook who supervises the Berg Collection in the
NYPL.
