EDITOR's NOTE. As you all know, Jeff Edmunds' ZEMBLA, the VN Butterfly
Net, one of the information sources under the the aegis of the
International Vladimir Nabokov Society, was singled out for praise in a
recent cyber-journal review article which is here excerpted. Dmitri
Nabokov extends his congratulations to Jeff Edmunds who established and
runs ZEMBLA with the generous support of the Penn State Library System.

FROM: Dmitri Nabokov:
MY WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS TO JEFF EDMUNDS AND ZEMBLA....FOR HIS
SPLENDID WORK.

A glowing review
(by Cara Stimpson) of ZEMBLA, the Nabokov Butterfly Net http:
//www.libraries.psu.edu/iasweb/nabokov/nsintro.htm, established and run by
Jeff Edmunds <jhe@psulias.psu.edu> with the generous support of the Penn
State Library system, may be found in _The Net_, a glossy journal well
known among cyber-designers.
The review appears on page 65 of the June 97 issue. Earlier, on
>page 49, at the beginning of the "blue pages" (a net directory), the Zembla
>motto is quoted ("Not flimsy nonsense...") and mention is made of the site.
>The review itself, which is quite well written, says in part:
> "In what is the simultaneously overwhelming and underwhelming
>time-suck of the Internet, Zembla, the Nabokov Butterfly Net, is a
>vitalizing illumination that will leave you, in the manner of a long,
>satisfying trip to the library, with a tweedy, dry-mouthed love of both life
>and language."
> The article concludes:
> "Ultimately, though, what is more compelling than all the academic
>minutiae, idol worship, and groupie-type photographs is the world of Zembla
>in and of itself: the simultaneously mesmerizing, perplexing, and
>tongue-in-cheek realm of the Nabokov-obsessed.
> So visit. You'll leave humbler and smarter and, above all, happliy
>awash in words."
