** I asked Volodya Alexandrov for more information about the Russian
translation of his book. Below is his response. Anastas'ev, who translated
the book, is also the author of one of the earliest post-glasnost Russian
monographs on Nabokov. Averin, one of the two editors, is a professor of
the St. Petersburg University who teaches a VN seminar there and has also
edited the forthcoming issue of _Pro et Contra_ which is dedicated to
Nabokov. I was told by one of the contributors that the issue will
carry the first publication of VN's early version of the Mademoiselle
story which was found in the Berlin archives of Rul'. It is called, in
that version,"Paskhal'nyi dozhd'" (Easter Rain). More -- and more
precise -- information about this forthcoming issue would be most
appreciated. GD***
