try. On the other hand, there is something in me that resists the idea.
But if more people suggest we do, I'd be willing to reconsider. My
personal favorites are "Signs and Symbols" and "The Return of Chorb."

My vote (are we voting?) goes to "Signs and Symbols", which happens to be
the first Nabokov I ever read (as an assignment for freshman English,
which
sent me to Laughter In The Dark and Lectures on Literature) but I've spent
a lot of time with "Torpid Smoke" and the one I feel like re-reading most
often is "Lance".

That was fun.

To return to a subject that was brought up a while back, invented artists
in VN, in Look At The Harlequins (p 164), an artist Levitan, and his
painting "Clouds Above A Blue River" are mentioned--I made a note of this
to check and see if this person were real or not, and never did. Is he?
