Of VN's short stories I've read up till now (including the hot
contenders, "Signs and Symbols" and "Aleppo"), my personal favorite is
still "Christmas." The images are unforgettable, the beauty undeniable,
the skill unequalled -- but mainly, it touches me deeply in a personal way
with themes that are universal.
