EDITOR's NOTE. "Sergey B. Il'in" <isb@glas.apc.org>, the foremost Russian
translator of VN's work (and long-time subscriber to NABOKV-L), reports on
a new, annotated Russian edition. I have supplied interlinear
translations.

The fifth and last volume of The Collected Works of Nabokov's English
Period has just appeared. The publisher is "Symposium" in St. Petersburg.
Translations are by Sergey Il'in.

The same publisher, "Symposium," is issuing a five
volume set of VN's Russian work. The first volume (800+ pages)includes the
stories, plays, poetry, translations, and essays written by VN between
1918 thru 1925. MARY will be in the second volume (1926-1930). Each
volume will have an Introduction by Alexander Dolinin (the preeminent
Russian VN scholar -- DBJ)

It is particularly important to note that "This edition published
by arrangement with the Estate of Vladimir Nabokov," i.e. it is the first
Russian edition that can not be suspected of piracy.

I think this will be the most thorough of all existing editions of
Vladimir Sirin.
