The Preliminary Program of the Nabokov Centennial Celebrations in
St.Petersburg.
The Nabokov Centennial celebrations in St.Petersburg
will take place on April 10-23. The Nabokov Museum in St.Petersburg (47
Bolshaya Morskaya Street) is the main site of the Centennial celebrations,
as well as the organizer of most of the events announced in the program.
The staff of the Nabokov Museum in St.Petersburg will gladly provide
guests of the Nabokov Centennial with anything they may need at the time
of their visit.

Main Events at the Nabokov Museum (April 21-23):
Meeting with the members of the Nabokov family* and prominent Nabokov
scholars at the Nabokov Museum. The Speak, Memory soiree is planned for
friends of Vladimir Nabokov to speak about the writer, his books, and his
life.
Opening of an exhibition of books which formed part of the library of
Vladimir Dmitrievitch Nabokov, writer's father;
Bus tour of Nabokov Sites in St.Petersburg, as well as special tours to
the Nabokov estates in
Vyra, Rozhdestveno, and Batovo near St.Petersburg: English-speaking
guides, references to Vladimir Nabokov's novels, meetings with local
people at the estates;
Presentation of a virtual/CD-ROM based exhibition;
Opening of a photo exhibition dedicated to Vladimir Nabokov's Centennial
at the Museum; Opening of a children\'92s art exhibition "Nabokov's
Butterflies" (installation in the lobby of the Nabokov Museum);
Presentation of a new brochure "The Nabokov Museum in St.Petersburg";
Press conference for Russian and foreign journalists.

Other Highlights of the Nabokov Centennial
April 10. Opening of the Nabokov Centennial Celebrations
with a concert at the St.Petersburg Alexandrinsky Theater. In the morning
of the same day, Terry Myers, an American patron of the Nabokov Museum,
will donate his collection of rare Nabokovian items to the museum. A
press-conference and a small reception are also planned.
April 10-15. Retrospective film showings at Parisiana Movie
Theater or at Dom Kino (the Cinema House);
April 15-18. "Pushkin and Nabokov" conference at the
Pushkinsky Dom Institute of Russian Literature;
April 21-22. Celebrations in Vyra, Rozhdestveno, and Batovo.

Schedule for Special Guests of the Nabokov Centennial:
20 April, Tues.
This is theday we suggest that you arrive in St.Petersburg. The Nabokov
Museum staff will meet you at the airport, take you to your hotel, and
make sure that you check in and pass all visa formalities. Please notify
us if you are planning to attend the events of the Nabokov Centennial
other than those planned at the Museum on April 21 - 23. We will be glad
to see you in St.Petersburg at any time, but the sooner we know when you
are coming, the better can we prepare for making your visit pleasurable
and efficient.

April 21, Wednesday.
10 am - 1 pm. Meeting with other guests as well as the staff and founders
of the Nabokov Museum and the Nabokov Foundation. Tour of the Nabokov
House (in English and in Russian).
1 pm - 2 pm. Lunch at the Museum.
2 pm - 4 pm. Bus tour "Nabokov Sites in St.Petersburg"
5 m - 7 pm. Dinner at one of St.Petersburg's restaurants

April 22, Thursday.
1 pm - 1:30 pm. Visitors, journalists, special guests, and others gather
in the central hall of the Nabokov Museum. Opening of a children's art
exhibition in the lobby of the museum;
1:30 pm - 2 pm. The Centennial Ceremony. Public appearances and speeches.
2 pm - 3 pm. Presentations:
Presentation of the The Nabokov Museum in St.Petersburg brochure;
Presentation of the virtual exhibition;
Opening of the photography exhibition dedicated to Vladimir Nabokov's
Centennial at the Museum;
Opening of an exhibition of books from the Nabokov library;
Reception
3 pm - 6 pm. Visitors' time. Tours of the museum and its new exhibitions.
6 pm - 8 pm. "Speak, Memory" : Friends and relatives of Vladimir Nabokov
as well as Nabokov scholars, writers, and journalists are invited to make
a public appearance and share their memories and thoughts about Vladimir
Nabokov, his life and books. Representatives of the artistic and literary
community of St.Petersburg will be invited to the soiree. Music and
readings from Nabokov's books are a possibility.

11 am - 4 pm. Bus tour to Rozhdestveno, Vyra, Batovo -- the estates of the
Nabokov family near St.Petersburg
2 pm - 3 pm. Lunch in a country restaurant in Rozhdestveno
3 pm - 5 pm. Return trip to St.Petersburg
7 pm. Evening at the theatre. The Lensoveta Drama Theatre will give a
performance of its new "King, Queen, Knave" production (based on Vladimir
Nabokov novel).
