Dear Nabokovians:
Hello, I am a Japanese researcher of music and literature in Tokyo.
I am subscribed to the list temporally to ask you a question.
Could anyone identify the source of the following sentence
by Vladimir Nabokov?:
>"Remembrance, like Rembrandt, is dark and festive"
I hear it might be from "Autobiography".
I have checked the Japanese translation of *Speak Memory*,
but I could not find it out. I also hear there are various
autobiographical writings by Nabokov, which I don't find around here.
If anyone can identify the quotation, do let me know the source
either on or off the list.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Junichi, Tokyo

P.S. I came across this sentence in a radio documentary
on Richard Strauss produced by Glenn Gould.
The quotation is refered in the book of his letters,
which I am translating into Japanese.
