Solzhenitsyn began to publish his memoirs from the years in exile in
"Novyj mir" no. 9 (1998), pp. 47-125. He describes the story of the
failed encounter with Nabokov in Montreux (p. 88) and publishes his
letter to Nabokov from May 16, 1972 (p. 125), which informs Nabokov that
Solzhenitsyn proposed him as a candidate for the Nobel prize to the
Swedish Academy.
