Can any one out there identify the line
"ni sadisticheskiia laski beznosoi smerti"?
Nabokov uses it in a Russian critical essay.

I imagine the lline is from a Russian source but perhaps not. The English
would be something like:
"nor the sadistic caresses of noseless death"
The use of the word "sadistic" indicates that the phrase is no great
antiquity.
Whoever supplies the answer will be immortalized in a footnote.
