According to Norman W. Schur's
invaluable BRITISH ENGLISH,
A TO ZED, "On second thoughts"
is the correct British English
for America's singular usage.
Humbert's European English
would naturally have a British
bent, and that bent would
reveal itself once in a way,
whether or not he'd gone
round the twist.
Too bad VN never picked up
any rhyming slang at
University!
