EDITOR's NOTE. Carl Proffer's seminal 1968 study has long been out-of-print. It
is, however, available in a new Russian translation (Klyuchi k LOLITE) issued
by the St. Petersburg publisher SYMPOSIUM and containing an "Afterword" by D.
Barton Johnson.
