I'm sure you got this too but it might be good to run on NABOKV-l
and pointing out that VN's father challenged Aleksei's son, Mikhail
Suvorin, to a duel. Likely the father's diaries have something about it
since the scandal took place the year before the older Suvorin's death.

the first publication by the Garnett Press?

For the first time the diary of the publisher, newspaper tycoon, theatre
owner, friend of Chekhov and
Rozanov — Aleksei Sergeevich Suvorin (1834?1912) — has been
published in full, with scholarly commentary and apparatus by Donald
Rayfield and Olga Makarova
This diary is of major importance as a tragic personal record, as
literary background, as a primary source for
Russian internal and foreign politics 1873-1912.
Hardback in dust jacket. xl + 666 pp, with 8 pages of black-and-white
illustrations, many
previously unknown. Beautifully printed and bound by Novosti printers,
with artwork by «Nezavisimaia gazeta»
Best seller in Moscow for August 1999; now sold out in Russia.
Well reviewed by Literaturnaia gazeta, Novoe literaturnoe obozrenie.
Chosen by Soros for distribution to Russian public libraries
