`Long Island Lolita' debuts as columnist
Published July 3, 2002
GARDEN CITY, NEW YORK -- Amy Fisher, who served seven years in prison
for shooting her lover's wife, has made her debut as a newspaper
columnist. Her first subject: cyberdating.
Fisher's initial column is published in the July 4 issue of The New
Island Ear, a free biweekly that circulates on Long Island.
As a teenager, Fisher became known as the "Long Island Lolita" for her
affair with garage mechanic Joey Buttafuoco and subsequent shooting of
his wife.
Fisher, 28, will share her views in a general-interest column, according
to Editor Robbie Woliver. "She's gotten a lot of positive feedback, a
lot of `you go girl' e-mails," said Woliver, who declined to say how
much Fisher is being paid.
"We are the Internet generation, and at the click of a mouse, we can
find just about anything, including that elusive date," Fisher writes.
But, she warns, "You never know who is really at the other end of the
mouse."
Fisher, a single mother, admitted a personal experience with cyberdating.
"He pretended he was a millionaire. After numerous online chats, we met
and really hit it off. One night, I said, . . . `I'm really Amy Fisher.'
He responded, `I'm not really a millionaire.'"
