In a delightful, much neglected film titled "Lovesick", the late Dudley
Moore gains counsel from the ghost of Sigmund Freud [Alec Guinness]. The
what-ifs of Nabokov's unexpressed opinions and their effects on his
only-potential readers reminds me of a line there attributed to Freud:
"I thought I had an interesting idea; it never occurred to me that it
would become an industry".
Would VVN have agreed?
