Trying to pen down and suck into one's politics Nabokov, stands about as
much chance of success as the same project done with Nietzsche - not that
this ever stopped anyone from trying in either case. I find great
commonality between them, in fact, not least because both disdained all
politics as something unsavory and vaguely philistine; but also, more to
the point, because each disdained flag waving and other forms of
stupidity, and all cruelty, no matter in what corner it might be found.
Don't forget, N. addressed his "Devil" comment to a class of Harvard
students - and to his ideal reader.

When in doubt, google.
