The Amis essay cited below originally appeared under the title "LOLITA
Reconsidered" in THE ATLANTIC MONTHLY 270, 3 (Sept. 1992): 109-20.
I cite the same passage in my introduction to VLADIMIR NABOKOV'S LOLITA:
A CASEBOOK, forthcoming from Oxford UP in October 2002.
