Jansy's suggestion sounds very sensible. In 1928, Nabokov wrote a review of
a Russian translation of Omar Khayyam's verse in the daily "Rul", and the
article makes it very clear that he not only knew all of it but had closely
studied it in FitzGerald's translation and that he liked it tremendously.
