Might be little more than a stab in the darkness visible, but the way
'Hell' is avoided in the initial address seems rather neat; especially in
light of the concluding conflagration. What dimension do these ghostly
narrators inhabit exactly? They certainly seem to have an intimate
relationship with the novel's multitude of parentheses.
