EDNOTE. Maurice Couturier, the dean of French Nabokov Studies, reponds to
my essay re the Peacock butterfly that "attended" NABOKOV 101 a few years
ago by recalling that an International VN Conference that he hosted in Nice
was also visited by butterfly.
M. Couturier will be co-teaching (with Alexander Dolinin) the St.
Petersburg Nabokov Museum Nabokov 101 program this summer. Please contact
me or Museum Director Tatyana Ponomareva <azint@mail.wplus.net>. Classes
and readings in English.

------------------ Dear Don
I enjoyed reading your message concerning the impromptu visit of a Peacock
during your seminar in Saint-Petersburg. You may recall that, during the
first conference on Nabokov in Nice in 1992, we similarly received the
visit of a butterfly during morning recess. No one, unfortunately, had a
camera ready; I seem to remember that it was a yellow and white butterfly,
but I only saw it from afar. Other participants on the list may have a
clearer memory of the event.
As I am teaching 101 next month (on "The Poetics of Desire", the corpus
being King, Queen, Knave, Invitation to a Beheading and Lolita), I will
keep an eye on your Peacock's offsprings.
I take this opportunity to inform the list that I am revising my
translation of Lolita and that the new edition will come out next spring.
This will be the edition that will appear in the second Pléiade volume.
Best wishes
Maurice
