Subject: Glass as major treat to birds and ... Pale Fire
See below quote from Pale Fire in recent discussion on Slashdot (News for nerds) web site
http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/02/02/0129249
of AP article 'Expert says glass is major treat to birds'
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1894&e=3&u=/ap/20040201/ap_on_sc/birds_clear_danger
I attach the posting below in case it will be pushed down. Note the low score of 2 and description 'Interesting' - believe me, not many fiction books a rated on Slashdot that high! To this I want to add that I had personally met few 'nerds' holding Pale Fire in high esteem.
On my memory Nabokov's intentions were not yet questioned by PETA people but given some of late postings on NABOKOV-L I would not hold my breath.
Greetings,

From Pale Fire by V. Nabokov:
I was the shadow of the waxwing slain
By the false azure in the windowpane;
I was the smudge of ashen fluff--and I
Lived on, flew on, in the reflected sky.
And from the inside, too, I'd duplicate
Myself, my lamp, an apple on a plate:
Uncurtaining the night, I'd let dark glass
Hang all the furniture above the grass,
And how delightful when a fall of snow
Covered my glimpse of lawn and reached up so
As to make chair and bed exactly stand
Upon that snow, out in that crystal land!
Great book!
