I used to make that comparison when I taught Pale Fire in a graduate class
in the 80s, and think I saw it earlier. I suspect it may be intentional, and
a pleasing additional touch, but what can one do with it, beyond saying it's
VN's best butterfly drawing?

EDNOTE. The idea of the shape of PF poem as 4 butterfly wings is worth
consideration.

Well this butterfly realy is not so mysterious :) It is simple
look - first canto is about 17% of all poem, second is 33% third 33%
again and
four again 17% so it is a
shape of butterfly [four wings]
17% 17%
33% 33%
i shoud draw it to you - imagine a shape of butterfly
[really it is no need to draw it, you Nabokovians probably know
(have in memory) a shape of Shade Poem, so remember/recall it
small bigg bigg small]
theese botterfly with upper wings smaller, I thint there are mainly
two species
of butterflays
1) theese with upper wings smaller down larger
2) theese with upper wings big down small
[I do not know to much about butterflys]
