EDNOTE. Just to save others from (a so far fruitless) search (or to get
them to look in any sources)....
VN was working on TT from Oct. -69 to April '72 with most of writing done
in late '71 thru early '72. Hence whatever book/author he had in mind (if
he did) must have appeared before then.I skimmed the lists of the top ten
bestsellers from the forties thru the 60s and early '70s but failed to
find anything promising. It sounds like a historical romance possibly
lurid. Anya Seton, (daughter of naturalist Ernest Thomas Seton, hit it big
with several of these during the decades involved but hers were not lurid,
unlike Kathleen Windsor's "Forever Amber".
