EDNOTE. Alfred Appel's _Annotated LOLITA_ neatly covers this. I scanned the
page (375) but, alas, was not able to send it to my e-mail. Could some kind
soul scan and send it for Ms. Berezina?

Could anyone explain the meaning of these lines? I do
not have any comments in my book.
These are from Lolita, 27 chapter:
Seva ascendes, pulsata, brulans, kizelans, dementissima. Elevator
clatterans, pausa, clatterans, populus in corridoro. Hanc nisi mors
mihi adimet nemo! Juncea puellula, jo pensavo fondissime, nobserva
nihil quidquam; /but, of course, in another moment I might have
committed some dreadful blunder; fortunately, she returned to the
treasure box. /
Thank you in advance!
